We recently found that Richard Cave is leaving the Compass Electronic Assistive Technology team. We first started working with Richard in 2016 when the BEST Communication Aids Module was installed at the Royal Hospital for Neuro Disability – Putney.
Richard has been great to work due to his enthusiasm to make the system work in the most streamlined way possible; we wish him all the BEST in his new challenges which include :-
Working for the MND Association and also working with Google on the Euphonia project. He says to anyone out there who knows anyone with dysarthria and would like to be involved he would love to help. Richard is also working on a PhD at UCL, focusing on how digital assistants may help people with dysarthria to be better understood by others and better control their environment.
What a guy!
Previous words from Richard about Soft Options and the BEST System.
Migrating from our legacy patient record and equipment management system to BEST felt like it was going to be a very challenging task. Our goals were to move to BEST without affecting patient support, to ensure all historical data was migrated safely and successfully, and ensure the team understood the new system and were comfortable using it operationally from day one.
Working with Dave and his team BEST allowed us to achieve these goals and more – we made very significant process improvements.
For example, Dave helped us to link our online referral system directly to BEST so we could see new referrals in BEST the moment they arrived, without any manual intervention. In turn, this helped us become paper-free end to end in our process.
The most important aspect of the migration to BEST was partnership. Dave and the team took the time to understand our processes, our data, and the needs of our team. Dave and Kelly were always on hand to ensure we had a smooth transition, helping us work through any issues or training needs.
As the implementation manager for Compass, I knew that I could rely on the team at Soft Options. If I had a question or concern I would get support quickly. Dave and the team went the extra mile to ensure we transitioned smoothly.
Since then the system has been stable and reliable, allowing the team to get on with what counts the most – looking after our patients. Three years on, I have no regrets choosing BEST.
